Albania�s real estate market revolutionised by TID Tower

Construction of a pioneering real estate scheme in Albania is reaching the 14th floor and is set to transform the surrounding area as it progresses.

TID Tower is being built in the capital city of Tirana and is part of an ambitious homes and business real estate plan for the city, based around 10 high-rise towers.

Developers revealed this week that building is progressing well and that completion should arrive by the end of 2010.

Designer 51N4E is incorporating offices, homes, and other real estate opportunities including shopping and restaurant facilities at the top and bottom.

The building is particularly striking thanks to a design known as a super ellipse, which starts as an ellipse and ends as a rectangle.

Hydro Power Plants to Boost Albania�s GDP

Tirana Dec, 20, 2008 (AENews) �A planned hydro power plant, HPP, project in the Devolli River in Southern Albania, will increase Albania�s general domestic product, GDP. by two percentage points, announced on Saturday the Minister of the Economy Genc Ruli.

�Our economy will benefit a 2 per cent rise by Devolli HPP project, while the investment will open 7500 new jobs, �said Ruli, in a presentation of the project held on Saturday, explaining the benefits of the concessionary agreement.

Albania Sees Increase in Foreign Investments

Tirana, Dec. 19, 2008 � Net foreign investments in Albania reached EUR 380, during the nine months ending Sept. 30, Bank of Albania data shows. Net foreign investments increased by 2.6 per cent compared to the same period 2007.

�The major part of foreign investments inflows, almost 64 percent, derives from the investments in the financial sector, mainly with the commercial banks�, BoA said.

Austrians and Norwegians to build Albanian power plants

Tirana - The Austrian and Norwegian energy suppliers EVN and Statkraft signed a 950-million euros (1.37-billion dollars) deal Friday to build three hydro-electric power plants in Albania, EVN said in a statement. The three plants on the river Devol, which flows into the Adriatic south of the capital Tirana, would produce a combined 340 megawatts of power and generate 1,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, improving the energy situation in Albania.

EVN and Statkraft are to carry out the project through a 50-50 per cent joint venture.

Albania�s National Commercial Bank Receives AAA Rating

Tirana, Dec. 17, 2008 � The Albanian National Commercial Bank , BKT, the second biggest bank in the country by assets, received AAA credit rating as local rating, and BBB- international rating, assigned by JCR-ER rating agency, BKT said in a press release.

�BKT has high level of available liquidity. Deposit structure primarily composed of long term and well spread retail deposit accounts and the management team, plus past performance of the bank gives confidence to investors and customers,� JCR said.

The rating agency expressed concern about increasing trend in non-performing loans and concentration of the construction sector in the corporate portfolio.

Albania recommended as lively holiday destination

Albania sells insurance company to US

TIRANA, Dec. 9 -- Albanian authorities said on Tuesday that an American company has agreed to buy the Balkan countrys flagship insurance company for 25 million euros (32 million U.S. dollars).

American Reserve Life Insurance Company has outbid nine other international bidders to take over 61 percent of Albanias state-owned insurance company Insig, the countrys Finance Ministry said in a statement.

Insig became Albanias state-owned insurance company in 1991 and now ranks second and third in the countrys life and non-life insurance markets.
